My Heart has a Path (RUMO)

The private schools of Piracicaba, in collaboration with RUMO, recently kicked off the annual fundraiser, “I don’t have a uniform, but my heart has a path.” The program continues to be a huge success with monthly contributions flowing in from private school students, augmented by food, milk, personal hygiene products and clothing, all of which has a positive impact on the daily lives of our children enrolled in the program.

A very special thanks to Ra Tim Bum School, Metropolitano School, Dom Bosco School, Baronesa de Resende Institute, Seletivo School and Infantile Education School A Corujinha for their donations, commitment, and dedication.

Bingo and Chicken Stew Night

Almost 500 people were on hand May 16th for the traditional bingo and chicken stew event, organized by RUMO in benefit of the institute. Food and fun were the watchword as guests won prizes donated by supporters of the foundation.

“Every year the event continues to grow,” said Viviane Romano, president of the institute. “It’s very rewarding to see the outpouring of support for our social cause.”

From all of us at RUMO, we would like to extend a special thanks to all the volunteers, friends and family that contributed their time and energy to making the evening memorable.

RUMO on Display

A photo exposition will be held at the Piracicaba Mall May 27th – June 1st highlighting the special projects and social programs developed by RUMO. “We have a responsibility to give back to our community,” said Viviane Romano. “RUMO has become recognized in our area for achieving excellent results for children and families in need, and thanks to the mall, we have an opportunity to further spread the word.”

Student Success Stories: Caroline Santos Amorim

Caroline was placed with RUMO at age five through the Piracicaba Municipal Custody Council. Demonstrating attention and cognitive development disorders, she was still in diapers, had limited speech and exhibited the overall behavior of a two-year-old.

Upon enrollment in the program, Caroline began seeing a neurologist, speech therapist and physiotherapist and it was quickly determined she was suffering from genetic malformation syndrome.

Over the past year while attending the institute, Caroline and her family have undergone extensive therapy sessions and she has responded quickly improving cognitive skills, motivation and socialization. The quality of Caroline’s life has improved dramatically and today, thanks to RUMO and the BR-111™ Foundation, she is performing at the same level as other six years olds in her peer group.

Caroline’s family has also benefited from participating in social programs made available through RUMO. Recently her 17-year-old brother, Rafael, completed studies that will guarantee an internship placement and her mother helps at the institute with janitorial jobs in return for monthly groceries for the family.
