Project Express

RUMO recently launched a new psycho-therapeutic program focused on students in the classroom. This activity was developed by psychotherapists Claudia Meneghetti and Carlos André Donzelli, with the objective to develop the children’s communication skills. This project will utilize as tools stories that offer the kids the opportunity to get in touch with reading, dramatization of fables and musicality through percussion instruments and combination of rhythms.

In addition to the daily activities, this initiative has an objective to promote the naming of feelings through means of playful activities that will stimulate perception, motility, autonomy and the development of a cultural identity that will dissipate conflicts and anxieties as well as improve the child’s self-esteem.

Health Incentive

The partnership between Piracicaba’s Odontological School and RUMO, established on August 2007, intends to guarantee dental care to the 82 children sponsored by the institute. The preventive and therapeutic visits started on February 29th.

All treatments are being scheduled directly with the institute and will be followed up by our team during the school year. This will guarantee the execution and completion of the treatments.

In order to guarantee maintenance and satisfactory results, the institute will arrange seminars for parents and guardians of the students. The seminars will take place in the institute’s premises and will focus on awareness and prevention on dental health.

Right Path (RUMO)

In February, Oratorio São Mário offered to the families of our students the opportunity to participate in courses of industrial sewing, computer basics, and silk-screen. Classes will take place in the Oratorio premises and last for six months. Sixteen people attended the classes.

Oratorio’s support has a crucial significance to RUMO’s objective, which is to break the poverty cycle in which a big portion of Piracicaba population lives. Chances for placement in the job market will also be made available to the participants.

Second Edition

In the morning of February 27, Rubens Moraes Educational Institute – RUMO, in partnership with Piracicaba’s private schools, officially reopened the campaign “I don’t have a uniform but my heart has a path.” (Estou sem uniforme, mas meu coração tem RUMO).

This is the second year of the campaign that in 2007 had 3.5K students from 17 private schools involved. The results were celebrated with the gathering of R$ 5,590.0, enough to pay the expenses for one child in the institute for a whole year.

The goal for this year is to increase the number of children supported by the institute. With this, even more students from private schools will be involved, which will promote exercise of solidarity and make them aware of the deficiencies of our society’s educational system. “This is a major issue that must be reviewed and supported with extreme urgency by social public politics,” declared Viviane Romano, RUMO’s president.

Partner schools do not require student uniforms on the last Friday of each month. On this day, the students donate to the institute the amount of R$ 1.00 or one liter of milk. All proceeds are reverted to funds for the maintenance of the Institute.

Easter is the essence of hope, faith and confidence. Happy Easter!
